Patna: Colleges Introduce Karate Classes for Girls

In times where crimes against women and minors have taken a new form and are scaling up at tremendous rates, development and economy seems inadequate to solve cases of crimes pertaining to women and college students. No matter how rich and technologically superior a state may be, if it fails to provide a safer ground for its women and girls, the 'developmental' shimmer starts to decay soon. In a small town like Patna, with a host of economic incapacities in the form of poverty, malnutrition, illiteracy, petty crimes and accidents of robbery, theft and burglary, reports of sexual harassment and crimes against women seem to be increasing a present a disparaging state of the town.

As per a report by Zee News, dated, December 19, 2019, the state of Bihar was grappling with harassment cases against women with the state capital bagging the top spot in incidents of atrocities against women. Available data suggested Patna to record the highest number of 85 rape cases till September 2019. The talks on women safety by the state administration seemed futile as cases of harassment continued to be reported from different nooks and cranny of the state.

In view of the glaring picture, schools and colleges in Patna decided to take a step forward in protecting its students against such heinous crimes by teaching self defence tactics, counselling and basic skills to fight off perpetrators.
