Sometimes there are no alternatives to lost forests. As per a report by National Geographic, more than half of Earth's rain forests have already been lost due to increasing human demand for wood and arable land. Rain forests that occupied nearly 14 percent of the land on Earth now cover only about 6 percent. Data released by Global Forest Watch suggests that the tropical rainforests suffered a major decline to the extent of 11.9 million hectares in the year 2019.
The primary forest loss was 2.8% higher in 2019 as compared to the previous year due to incessant wildfires in the surrounding regions. The loss in primary forests as such a tremendous pace was a worrying trend as it wreaks havoc with the ecological balance and induces climate change. To learn more of the worrying trend, the causes behind the tragic loss and measures to hinder the process, read here.
